Somewhat back to my original post:I just finished reading this book last night. One word. Incredible!
I had posted a different post earlier this morning about this book, but then as the day went on I decided to keep my opinions about this book to myself and just say it was an incredible read. It is never easy talking negative about God's ministry and although I didn't think I was, I did not want to give anyone the wrong idea.
I say this book is incredible because for me it was so validating of so many feelings I have. At times I wanted to shout out, "No kidding!" and "You are so right!" to the writer, who did her research well.
This book does take a few chapters to get into, but once you do, you see what happens to so many ministry families when the stresses of church set in. The questions we have all asked about moral fall's within the ministry: How could that happen? He's a pastor! She's/he's a pastor's kid! are clearly answered. When you work in a church there is no separation from work and worship. It is a constant and can take a toll on the family if not balanced properly.
I am so thankful that Danny is not like the husband in this book. He is my best friend and I enjoyed sharing this book with him. I wish we would have read it together. It would have been a great ministry couples devotional. It was therapeutic. I learned. It made me stronger in what I feel and believe. And, more understanding of others.
It's a great book. Give it a few chapters to get into. By the way, my favorite part is the tongue lashing Paul receives from his mother in the last couple chapters in the book. Incredible!

Denise, I want to read that next. I've heard so many good things about that one too. I'm currently reading "Atonement Child" by the same author. That's a good one too. Did you like that one better than Redeeming Love?
Okay, just wrote the name of the book down and I'm going to get it this afternoon. I read what you had written about it earlier and I was immediately intrigued - even googled it to find out more. So, when Max is in OT this afternoon I'm heading to the local Christian bookstore! :)
JEnnifer, I think you would really like "Atonement Child" too. It's really good and I think Sarah Palin would LOVE it too. Another reason to read it!
Isnt' it great? I think EVERY person who has a husband in the ministry should read it. It really hits home in so many ways. I am glad you enjoyed it!
I will say that the book is hard to get into but by chapter 2-3 you're hooked.
i am so impressed that you have time to read! i can't manage to read more than a magazine cover while standing in line at the grocery store. do you lock yourself in a closet?
Dolly- I want to read that book too. Maybe we can switch books as Christmas.
Jennifer--give it a few chapters to get into. I read the first 2-3 chapters a week ago, then picked it back up and finished it in 2 days. It was that interesting to me.
Donna--I agree sweet girl. AND, pastors should read it too, especially sr./head pastors.
Sassy--you are funny. For me to read or make time to read, it has to be a real page turner! Usually I read during the little ones nap time and late into the evening.
Good post, Denise. Me curious. I'll look into it! We could start a whole other blog just for a Bloggers book club!
btw, my pastor did a whole sermon on the symbolism of the Shofar. It gave me chills. It is really a beautiful picture!
Thanks for the info denise, I had never heard of that Francine Rivers book, I will look into it, I am looking for a new read.
Oh, yes, I'm getting it today! I just read my first ever Francine Rivers book - Redeeming Love, this summer. Loved it.
Okay, I have to confess something. I was catching up on your blog and I saw the list of names in a bowl post. When it said Angela, I got all excited, until I saw that it was a different Angela. But we sound so similar too. Aw shucks.
Okay, so if you have any last minute "in's" I'll swap with them.
Oh Angela, you have to read this book! I think you will enjoy it.
Sorry about the swap. You will have to get in on our next one--either Christmas or sometime during the winter season.
Denise, I got the book yesterday and fell asleep reading it last night and then got up this morning and read a little. I don't know why, but the whole theme of this book is just so interesting to me. So far, so good! Give me a little longer though because sometimes it can take me awhile to get through a book. :)
Sounds like a great read Denise! Thanks for the compliments on the on my site! I'm planning on posting step by step stuff with the fondant so stay tuned :) Have a great day! If I didn't say already, your family is beautiful! Looks like FUN!
One more thing....love the "What's for Din Din" site! GREAT idea!

Jennifer, give it a few chapters, you won't be falling asleep.
Elizabeth, the DinDin website was not Denise's idea, FYI. Let's give credit where credit is due:)
Just kidding, Denise!!
Denise, Sounds like a good book! I can't wait to read it. I'm sure I will be able to relate.
By the way Dolly, I mailed your gift out today!!!! I brought it all on vacation with me and finished it. You should have it by Saturday. Happy Waiting!!!
I read this and loved it as well. Go Francine!!
I just finished reading her book, The Scarlet Thread. Our new library in Rockwall has her books so I need to look for these two that you mentioned.
