So, I got the book for Mother's Day, and ever since that special day, my sweet children have been asking repetitively, to make cupcakes.
Aughhhh...you see 5 children in my kitchen baking, (yes 5, including baby Jane in the high chair cooing or crying to be held), stresses me out beyond words! This is where I become a bad mom, and I am a little embarrassed to say it.
My sister Donna is the bomb diggity when it comes to cooking with children, be it her own or her nieces and nephews. She is so relaxed with it. I, on the other hand, cannot handle the MESS, the NOISE. You know the old saying,''Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth." Well, I say "True dat" to that!
Anyway, this past week (after searching my Hello, Cupcake book for what I thought was the easiest cupcake to make), decided to bake with all 5 of my children. NO JOKE, after 4 hours in the kitchen, and 77 mini cupcakes later, I give you: Spaghetti and Meatball cupcakes!
So I give our cupcakes *** (that's 3 out of 5 stars).
Mental notes/Tips for next time:
1.) Don't stress! They make the cupcakes look way better, and way easier in the book.
2.) Use professional frosting next time.
3.) Use professional piping bags. (I happened to have these with tips.)
4.) Don't make mini cupcakes next time. Three words: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Denise, I'm LOL! They turned out GREAT and I know the kids loved making them with you. I'm like you....I think too many kids (or cooks) in the kitchen would stress me out too! I'm glad you got a picture of them. They look great! Thanks for the tips. I need to get making some. I heard (from Donna) they are harder to make then they seem.
I have had my eye on that book for a while now. I definately need to get it.
Those cupcakes look adorable and just like spaghetti and meatballs. YUMMY! You are a GOOOOD mom to make these with your kids. I 100% agree with your stresses on cooking with kids!
Laughing about the carpel tunnel. Activities like this always sound like a fun idea when you start, but then halfway through you start asking yourself what was I thinking.
LOL! The cupcake look yummy, yet kind of gross in their own way. You should wait for your nanny for these kind of activities!! LOL!!
The kids will remember this...good memory! I want to see pictures of the kids in the kitchen!
those cupcakes are quite impressive. as is the amount of time it took you to make them. i am the exact same way...i hate other people in my kitchen. just let me do it!!!! i try to give my girls the easiest and least messy job i can think of if they insist on helping me. isn't that awful!!!
how precious! Sophia would love to help do that! and the boys would love to eat them!
Love it!! Wish I had one of those cupcakes for breakfast right now!! Also, I agree, you should have gotten some pictures of the kids in the kitchen. I bet it was a mess! One thing about it, though. You can always clean a kitchen, and the memories the children have of baking with you are forever. I really wish I would have done that more with you girls!!
Girl, I am with you on getting stressed out b/c they don't look like the book! When I made the sunflower ones, I was about to cry b/c mine looked NOTHING like the book. Yes, the trick is to us professional tools. I think your spaghetti looks pretty goo, though. A lot better than mine looked!
LOL about having 5 kids in the kitchen. NOw that would stress me out:)
LOL, I love the tips D. I can only imagine what your Kitchen looked like afterwards. I know the kind of mess I make, much less 5 kids. Clap Clap, for being an AWESOME MOM!
Those turned out so cute!
Have you tried to make cupcake pops?????Argh! Thought I would lose my salvation!
Mine never look like the book...how do those people do it??? Oh, it is their job, there atre no kids there, ther is no laundry, they are not trying to make dinner at the same time either!!!
YAY Denise!!!! Good for you. I am right there with you - it is so hard for me to let the kids invade the kitchen. I am trying to get better too. I think I should take your adventure as a challenge. :)
How very fun and those cupcakes are adorable!!!!!
Denise, you are the BOMB!!!! Those cupcakes look really good. They really look like spaghetti and meatballs. All you needed to do was make a cupcake salad and cupcake garlic bread and VOILA!!! HA!
I am going to contact Duff on Ace of Cakes and tell him about you.
Okay, those were the easiest to make in the entire cookbook? Oh my goodness, that is one that I don't need then because they look hard. I'm assuming the noodles are just icing, right? They turned out really cute...good for you super mom!
Denise, you always make me laugh because you're a mom of 5 who uses phrases like "true dat" and "bomb diggity." So funny!
Denise! VERY cool....very! I want that book. You're a fun mama! What made the "sauce" on the meatballs? Jam? I LOVE cupcakes.
