Harry Jack Roller Skating

(Slightly long post--sorry!)
Monday night Harry Jack was invited to his first skating party, held at our local skating rink. You locals know where I am talking about.

Not exactly my favorite party place. Definitely not the place to drop my little boy off for a party and then leave. Nope! I stayed. Stayed the whole time and organized my coupons, keeping a close eye on my boy.

You see, when there are STILL grown adults decked out in their original "80's attire, be'boppin around the rink--first in line for the limbo, somethings not quite right. I found myself saying, "are you kidding me???" one too many times!

This place has been around FOREVER. Seriously, when I was a little girl, on Monday nights this place had "Christian Skates." You know--they played all Christian Music--Amy Grant, Michael English, Sandi Patty--you get the picture.

Anyway, on Monday nights my father would load all of girls up and take us skating for a few hours, with one stipulation. We had to have made a 100% the previous Friday's spelling test. Wow, talk about some stress!!! This was big time back then and we didn't want to miss it.

Oh the memories this place. There was one night when I left this place in tears. I was crying in the back seat of our blue station wagon because my father caught me trying to "couple skate" with Nick K...or was it Eric H???

I don't know what I was thinking. Hmm...couples skate...lights off with the disco ball spinning...Daddy sitting on the side of the rink watching his 5 little girls...and I thought I could skate by him without him seeing?????? I was a slow learner...

Okay back to the real reason I started to post about this place. It has had a few makeover's in the past 37 plus years of it's existence, but it is still stereotyped in my mind. Sorry _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _!

Below are some funny pictures of Harry Jack trying to skate. His boy CRACKED me up! He seriously is a funny kid! It was his first time on skates.

I caught these on my cell phone and for memory sake, I thought I would share them with all of you!

One of MANY hilarious faces!!!
He finally made it to the middle of the floor and...
...fell...

...so he crawled back to the wall and tried again.

Harry Jack and I had a good time together Monday night. It was just the two of us, something that is rare in our big family!

That is TOOOOO funny!! Harry Jack is really a funny little guy. At least he got out there and tried....good for him!

Yes, we have lots of good memories of that old skating rink. Bless your heart....the thought of trying to double skate with a BOY!! I'm sure both Daddy and I would change sooo many things we did as young parents. Guess we just didn't want you "treading on thin ice". Ha ha!!! ILY

FINALLY, a new post! This was hilarious to read and relive the memories of that wonderful skating rink. I can STILL smell it, too. Uggh!

Harry is hilarious! I love the picture of him with his funny face. I'm LOL at you trying to skate with Eric, too. Hahaha!

Funny story about the couple skate!! Man, you worked so hard studying for that spelling test and then just ruined the reward night by trying to skate with a boy! Do you remember the song that was playing??

EVERY TIME I take Peyton to the skating rink here, there is at least one person who is wearing the tight, stone washed jeans and has the feathered hair and is jammin' round the rink just singing along and is just WAY too into it! Creepy...

Denise, I'm laughing! I BARELY remember that whole thing with you skating with Eric H. So funny! And Donna, I can still smell that skating rink too although it looks pretty spiffed up and clean in the pictures.
Good for you for staying at the party. Harry still probably loved having his momma there watching him do all his "tricks". Another few years and you won't be able to get away with it. :(

This post was hilarious on so many levels. You took me back to our local skating rink many years ago except we skated to hymns and the Cathedrals....none of this contemporary Christian wickedness...we would skate as our gauchos flapped in the breeze. You were something else if you could flip around and skate backwards. I am also smelling the stinky feet smell right now. JENIUS, YOU CRACK ME UP..."treading on thin ice"...that is so funny! Denise, you can be grateful to your strict Daddy that you "saved yourself" for Dan the Man. Couple skate today....Treading on thin ice tomorrow.

I knew I could count on a big ole smile and laugh when I visited here! HJ looks sooooo much like Maddie in that second picture. You are a goooood mommy not to drop your boy off with the Chesters of the burg! Love this post!

I was thinking the exact thing HPS wrote - "Chesters" that is a nice way of saying it!

The crazy men with the stone washed tight jeans I'm thinking they are the chesters....
