This Butternut Cake is Danny's favorite, as well as my Dad's. My mother found the recipe years ago and makes it better than any of us girls. It looks better in person, and the trick to getting it to taste really butternutty is finding a good butternut flavoring. There is a certain brand my mom uses that is hard to find down here in Florida. I forgot the name of it. Mom, can you comment and tell us what it is called?Butternut Cake:
Add one envelope of Dream Whip, 4 eggs, 1 cup of cold water, and 1 1/2 Tablespoons butternut flavoring to a yellow cake mix. Mix together and bake at 350 until done.
Frosting:
1 stick butter, 1 package cream cheese, 1 box powder sugar, 1 Tablespoon butternut flavoring, 1 cup chopped pecans.
Cream together first 3 ingredients. Then add flavoring, mix. Then mix in pecans.

Denise, the name of that butternut flavoring is Superior Vanilla, Butter and Nut Flavor. I just looked on the bottle, and it's made in Charlotte. I bet the Harris Teeter stores sell it. Around here, I can only find it in Kroger.
The cake mix needs to be beat about 3 minutes, as well as the frosting. That makes for a nicer cake, and creamier frosting. Just a little hint. The men usually love it!
Happy birthday Dan the man! That's a great picture of your beautiful family Denise. I talked to Danny tonight on the phone and it was good to talk to him. I told him his gift is coming in the mail. Nov 11th snuck up on me this year.

Awwww, I'm a bad sis-in-law. I KNEW it was his bday and we forgot to call. I even reminded DOLLY who thought it was on the 10th. Wahhh. Tell DTM, I"m sorry and his present is in the mail. It snuck up on me, too.
Now, about that cake. It is delicious. Why isn't yours yellow? Does the flavoring you make it with make it white? It is a melt in your mouth kind of cake!

Donna, the cake is yellow--not as yellow as mom's, because I cannot find her flavoring down here. The picture also made it look a little white I guess because of the flash. It is still good. I just had a piece---Shhhh!

Dayna- funny! Maddie has gotten back into the bow--actually Ribbon- thing a little. She fixes her hair in a pony tail and then somehow ties the bottom of it up into a bun with the ribbon/bow on top.
I don't know how she does it, but it looks cute.
